Gdańsk is the cradle of the amber trade, amber being drawn out from the bottom of the Baltic Sea. The world's history from milions years ago has been "closed" in multicoloured amber. However the legend tells, that amber stones are tears of a beautifull young woman named Dobrosta sorrowing after her loved husband and walking on the sea-side sand-drifts. Her tears were flowing into the Baltic Sea and then changed into the amber nodules. For ages merchants from far-South have been following the famous "amber route" to one of the richest sea-side ports creating great possibilities of the development of the town, trade and humans relations. Gdańsk has become very known and rich member of Hansa Town Union. The amber trade assured the fortune and success.
